Statement
Throughout most of my life i have worked in a variety of media. In recent years i have discovered that painting in oils has the most to teach me. I love the the smell, feel and consistency of oil paint. i think it is 'moody' because it changes with the light. i believe that oils have the rugged strength that helps define and compliment my style of expression.
The light or absence thereof constantly affects the shapes, forms and color. Being so elusive and constantly on the move as i paint, the highlights and shadows appear and disappear.
I use a lot of color in my paintings but in the process what really matters is not the color itself but simply dark and light. I paint with broad strokes and with little attention to detail.
I enjoy working out of doors on location but i also paint in the studio from my own photographs which poses the challenge of not losing the inherent sense of movement and spontaneity that makes painting in oils so attractive in the first place.
I am told that my paintings project a feeling of peace.
